Hello guys. I'm new here and I was gonna ask you guys a question. I have recently just downloaded the Beta 1 of Midtown Madness 2 and was curious to see what it was like. I installed the game and was ready to go, only to be stopped by an error telling me I have to insert the CD into the CD Drive. The problem is, the game came in a *.zip file with the contents of the CD inside. So I have no CD to insert. I have tried making an *.iso of the game, however that proved nothing. Is there anyway to bypass or disable the CD Check for this beta game? Thanks guys so much for your time! :D

You can download this version of Midtown Madness 2 at this location:

Did you try one of the nocd patches from our download section?

I'm curious about your game, you write it's a Beta, does this mean one of the testing versions that have been distributed prior to the official launch of the game?

Yeah, I have obtained a testing version before final release. Plus, I don't see any NOCD Patches in the Official Patches section. Do you mean the MM2 XP Patch? `Cause I already tried that and the results being the installer couldn't locate the midtown2.exe file. :(

No CD, No CD Patch v3

Did you try when asked loading an original MM2 CD? Or mount an ISO of an original CD?

When you made the ISO from the download did you remove the Apple files?

I tried some things, with the No CD patches I get the loading screen but then it stalls. I have not yet tried the Trial exe but it looks like the structure of the Beta files are a bit different from the released game and that's why its stalling.
With mounting a genuine MM2 CD I get the message the beta has expired.

This worked for something else, I once installed the Beta 2 version of Windows XP to Virtual PC and realized that it brought up a similar error during installation. I tried changing the host computer's date back to something like February 26, 2001 and it finally let me install the O.S. The Midtown Madness 2 *.exe's date is listed as June 29, 2000. Maybe try setting the host computer back to that date and see if it works?...

Changing the computer date did work, I was able to bypass the dialog box. Although, I'm having alittle problem... when attempting to run the beta on my MSI Windows XP SP3 or Dell Windows 7 computers, that blue Microsoft picture appears and then nothing else happens. No loading screen, no menu screen... no nothing. I did try to run the game on my old Dell Windows XP SP1 laptop and I was finally able to load to the menu screen. Problem is, there are some graphical issues where the cars have no wheels and no shadows. Plus, when entering SanFran or London the game freezes. Is there anyway to fix these issues? :(

A link is offending you? I don't seem to understand, how does a link offend you? Am I not allowed to post links or something?... I'm confused. But I'll delete the link if you really honestly want me to... :|

I see no problem with the link. Please return it for other interested people. MM2car is not an admin but a respected member. However people do not have to format postings to his personal preferences.

The trick with the system clock -why didn't I think of it- worked. In the car selection screen I also got crappy graphics. When launching the game no graphics came because of two errors. They are graphical errors. I remember with the NYC map you had to pick a renderer with or without T&L and not go above 1024x768 or so.
Anyway the only way so far I got it running was in software mode. So far I spotted barely any differences in the city. A few telephone or electricity poles I could not remember from the final game -I didn't check so I can be wrong.

Yeah, I thought the beta would include alot more to offer, like the '59 Caddie or the Moon Rover. I wonder if you can download new cars for this beta... Also, I too can only run the game in software mode. We'll have to see what that's all about... I'll fix the link right now aswell. :)

On a second computer with a Geforce 7600GS I got better graphics in the selection screen but still only could run in software rendering. Later I will try a third system with an ATi video adapter. The first system I tried had a TNT2 M64 Pro.

Heh, I was beginning to wonder if my post on beta archive would ever get noticed. :P

Anyway, the issues with graphics are caused by nvidia cards, this has been confirmed on MM2X, and through some testing I did with friends. ATi and Intel cards run it fine.

Also, there are cracks that bypass the CD and date checks: http://www.mediafire.com/?btprnrrjvajmxdv

If anyone has any questions about the beta, feel free to ask me. I know a lot about them. :)

Thanks _DB_.
What are the portals? I see no difference with or without them.

I've been able to run the game on the ATi system. There are very little differences with the final version. Some unfinished work, that's all. On the south end of the free way is an opening next to the pillar where you can enter the no mans land with some wall riding, that has been closed in the final. Also I miss the sound of breaking glass on the beta.

Portals seem to be a toggle for the PVS files, which are hardly used in the game because CPVS overwrites them. I tried toggling them ingame and only noticed minor differences in buildings.

And while it's true that the beta mostly consists of unfinished work, there are some things that have been removed from the final game. Things like this include several car paint jobs, tree walls across the river in London, man holes in random places in each city, the century's trailer, the F12 button, the ferry to Alcatraz, etc. Even down to minor things like more telephone poles in SF, more variety of trees in London, and fog lights on the new mini. There are even some entirely different races and crash courses. :)

That's quiet a lot. What was the F12 button for?

It works as a frame-by-frame pause feature. Keep pressing it to advance one frame, and press F2 to cancel the effect.

I found in a post on mm2x links to no-cd cracks AND a tool to run the tool as if it was a different day (without BIOS modification).

http://www.mediafire.com/?btprnrrjvajmxdv

EDIT: Yeah I have to run in software rendering too.
